eCourts Services Mobile App — Complete Guide

The eCourts Services app is the official mobile application developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the eCourts project. It brings the functionality of the eCourts portal (services.ecourts.gov.in) to your smartphone. This guide covers everything you need to know about using the app.

What is the eCourts Services App?

The eCourts Services app is the official mobile app of the Indian judiciary's eCourts project. It is developed and maintained by NIC (National Informatics Centre) under the guidance of the eCommittee of the Supreme Court of India. The app is available for free on both Google Play Store (Android) and Apple App Store (iOS).

The app provides access to case information from district courts and some High Courts across India, mirroring much of the functionality available on the eCourts web portal.

Key Features of the eCourts Services App

1. Case Status by CNR Number

Enter your 16-digit CNR number to get instant case status, including current status, next hearing date, case history, and party/advocate details.

2. Case Status by Party Name

Search for cases by entering the petitioner or respondent name. You need to select the state and district court first.

3. Case Status by Advocate Name

Advocates can search for all their cases by entering their name. This shows all cases where they are the advocate on record in the selected court.

4. Case Status by Case Number

Search by case type, case number, and year. You need to select the court complex where the case is filed.

5. Case Status by Filing Number

If you have the filing number assigned at the time of case filing, you can use it to look up the case status.

6. Cause Lists

View the cause list (list of cases scheduled for hearing) for any court complex. Cause lists are typically published a day before the hearing date.

7. Court Orders

Where available, view and download court orders passed in cases. Not all courts upload orders online, but the number has been increasing steadily.

How to Use the eCourts Services App

Step 1: Download the App

Search for "eCourts Services" on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Make sure to download the official app by "eCourts - eCommittee - Supreme Court of India." The app is completely free.

Step 2: Select Your Search Method

The app home screen shows several search options. Choose the one that matches the information you have — CNR number is the fastest and most accurate.

Step 3: Select the Court

For most search types (except CNR), you'll need to select the state, district, and court complex where your case is filed.

Step 4: Enter Details and Search

Enter the required information, solve the CAPTCHA if prompted, and view your case details.

Limitations of the eCourts App

  • One case at a time — You can only search and view one case at a time. There's no way to save or track multiple cases.
  • No automated alerts — The app doesn't send notifications when your hearing date changes or an order is passed. You have to manually check each time.
  • CAPTCHA required — Many searches require solving a CAPTCHA, which can be frustrating on mobile.
  • No case timeline — Case history is shown as a simple table, not as a visual timeline.
  • Court selection required — For party name and case number searches, you must know and select the exact court, which can be confusing.
  • Limited High Court coverage — The app primarily covers district courts. High Court cases are better searched on individual High Court websites.
